Hellreich Mark pulmonologist was treating the Graham 93 years.

Larry Ross, longtime spokesman for Graham, said that the Evangelist has recently developed a cough, congestion and a slight fever. Doctors decided keep Graham during the night for observation as a precaution.

According to the statement, Graham was alert when he was admitted, smiling and waving to the hospital staff.

Meanwhile in Charlotte, several supporters gathered at the Billy Graham library to pray for his recovery.

Wednesday night, Graham ate dinner and was visited by his daughter, Gigi, whom Ross said conveyed messages of goodwill from all over the country. When the father and daughter began to watch TV, Ross said, took place through movies from 1973 of Graham crusade in St. Louis.

Graham's illness follows an eventful autumn for Charlotte native.

In October, has released his book 30, "the way home," on growing old life and finishing well. His son, evangelist Franklin Graham, described her father at the time as an active, engaged, but limited by his age and his lack of hearing and sight.

In November, Graham's Evangelistic Association put online more than 60 years of his sermons. And a poll published last week made him best known religious leader of the country.

In 2007, the Evangelist has spent nearly two weeks of mission hospital for intestinal bleeding. He was hospitalized twice in 2008, once so doctors could relieve the pressure around his brain which can cause symptoms of Parkinson 's, and after he stumbled over his dog.

While it is not clear when it comes out Graham, the statement said that he is looking forward to spending Christmas with his family at his home in Montreat College.

Franklin Graham says that his father spends his days with his assistants, working on writing projects and respond to mail. He follows the news, visits with friends and takes several NAPs. His wife, Ruth, died in 2007.

Leighton Ford of Charlotte, who is married to Graham's sister Jean, said she learned of hospitalization of his brother-in-law Wednesday afternoon.

Fords were scheduled to visit with Graham in the mountains Monday before Thanksgiving. The trip was canceled, Ford said, because Graham was fighting a cold and went to see his doctor..
